Snail Mail Revival – The Return of Letter Writing
When is the last time you sent or received an actual letter?
Take a break from technology and connect the analog way – through a handwritten letter! Learn why there has been a revival of letter writing during the pandemic, and get an introduction to letter writing – from how to write a letter to what to write about and to whom, we will cover it all! We hope to inspire you to put pen to paper and (re)make it a part of your life.
Supplies will be provided.
Upstairs in the arts room. Edmonds Community Centre has an elevator if you need it.
F A Q
Can I come alone?
Absolutely! Don’t be shy. Drop in by yourself, or with a friend. It’s an excellent social activity for introverts :). One of the perks of writing letters together is that you may have an opportunity to chat with someone just as excited about letter writing as you.
What should I bring?
While supplies will be provided, you should bring your address book, or collect a few addresses of friends or family or whoever else you’d like to write to. If you’re planning ahead, you can think about upcoming birthdays or events like Mother’s Day, or Graduation.
You can also bring your favourite pens, stationery, envelopes, stamps, washi tapes, special occasion cards, or anything else you’d like, but we have everything you’d need to mail a letter (except the address and the letter itself).
I don’t have anyone to write to, can I still come?
Sure, anyone is welcome. Consider writing an anonymous letter to cheer someone up, to leave at a public location. There are also penpal signups on social media, other letter writing clubs, or #MailMissions – when there is a public call to send kindness through the mail to celebrate a milestone, get well wishes, lessen loneliness for seniors and troops. Let us know if you’re stuck!
We will follow all safety protocols for events held in a City of Burnaby facility,
Edmonds Community Centre can be reached by taking the 106 New Westminster Station from Stop #4 at Edmonds Station. It will take approximately 7 minutes along Edmonds Street to the 4th stop 52412 at Humphries Avenue. Otherwise, there is street and underground parking. Click here for more information.
