Indian Horse Screening

May 9 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

BCIT’s Indigenous Services Department and Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships team welcome you to join us for a special screening of Indian Horse. A BCIT Elder will open up the screening with a welcome. Join us and watch the movie together with some light refreshments. There will be time for a discussion after the film. The BCIT Library team will host the screening of the film in their new Entrepreneurship centre for the first time on BCIT campus.

Richard Wagamese’s award-winning novel, Indian Horse, is being taught in thousands of Canadian classrooms, with over 100,000 copies of the book in circulation. The story of Saul Indian Horse hit the big screen back in April 2018.

For First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in Canada, this story is both deeply familiar and current. The book and the film provide an opportunity for educators to enact the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendation to engage with students and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities who may be learning this history for the first time.
