Most of us working today have witnessed how technology has changed the way we work. Automation is nothing new to us. But with changes happening so quickly, how do we future-proof ourselves in the midst of this transition? How will our jobs be impacted?
Join us in a discussion with a panel of industry experts and professionals to explore the challenges that organizations face when adopting new technologies from different perspectives.
Dr. Kendra Strauss, Director and Associate Professor, The Labour Studies Program and The Morgan Centre for Labour Research, Simon Fraser University
Kendra is the Associate Professor and Director of the Labour Studies Program at Simon Fraser University and an Associate Member in the Department of Geography. She is a labour geographer and feminist political economist with teaching and research interests in the areas of labour market change, welfare regimes, and systems of regulation. Her current SSHRC-funded research is focused on the experiences of elderly care workers in Vancouver and Shanghai.
Daryl Musselman, VP Manufacturing Operations, Inventys Thermal Technologies Inc.
Daryl’s role encompasses the strategy, planning, direction and execution of all manufacturing operations at Inventys. Dr. Musselman has held several key executive positions in the past, including most recently in the role of Chief Operating Officer for Bionic Power Inc., where he developed the production team, facilities, and processes required to effectively deliver energy harvesting equipment to the US Army and US Marine Corps. Prior to that, Dr. Musselman was Vice President of Engineering for Endurance Wind Power Inc., where he was the senior leader responsible for fleet safety, Installation Operations and Maintenance, and new turbine development.
James Rout, Associate VP of Education Support and Innovation, British Columbia Institute of Technology
James has more than 15 years of leadership experience in higher education in areas including teaching and learning, libraries, archives, and educational technology support services. He has twice been nominated for national innovation awards and in 2009 received the CTCL Innovation Achievement award from the Canadian Library Association.
Matt Burns, Founder & CEO, Global HR Collective
Matt Burns’ nearly 20-year corporate journey has taken him around the world, supporting companies with operations in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia & South America. In his previous HR Executive role, Matt led an HR team that was recognized in 2018 as the ‘Canadian HR Team of the Year – Retail / Hospitality’, on the heels of their 2017 award for the: ‘Most Innovative Use of HR Technology’.

Shivam Kishore, Manager, Technology Sector Growth and Partnerships, Vancouver Economic Commission
Shivam leads and manages technology sector initiatives at the Vancouver Economic Commission, combining his educational background in biomedical engineering with his passion for seeing tech enable positive and sustainable change in societies. Over more than a decade in the professional services and consulting sector, Shivam’s technical expertise and strong business acumen has benefitted technology-focussed firms ranging from Global 100 enterprises to entrepreneurial start-ups.
Shivam has lived and worked across five continents, and his global experience has made him adept at communicating with clarity and diplomacy to individuals from diverse cultural and organizational backgrounds. A certified yoga instructor and a mindfulness coach, he strives to foster compassion, care and community in every interaction.
